The programme is being organised by the Supreme Committee of Shaikh Maktoum Project for Quran Memorisation.

Addressing a Press conference held on Wednesday at the Dubai Auqaf and Islamic Affairs, Yousif Al Hamadi, Deputy Chairman of the committee said that the Supreme Committee headed by Hamad Al Shaibani, Director General Of Auqaf, launched special plans for this summer to involve students in religious activities and encourage them to learn about Islamic teachings and values. A team was formed to take care of administrative, financial and technical affairs in the memorisation centres.

He added that the summer programme is aimed at involving children and the youth in religious activities to enhance their ability to memorise and recite the Holy Quran. Mr Al Hamadi said the committee of the project co-ordinated with the Ministry of Education and Youth (MoEY) to include in the programme four boys and girls schools which have 100 students each, as well as Dubai Municipality to use five public libraries as memorisation centres.

"The committee is now working on establishing memorisation centres in juvenile care units in Dubai," he added.

Yousif Bu Smait, Financial Director of the project said that the Auqaf has allocated Dh1.8 million as the project's annual budget, out of which 80 per cent was saved to support the summer programme activities.
