It was the surprise of a lifetime for 54-year old Mohanan Benny when he received a call informing him he had won 1kg gold in the daily raffle draw by Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group.
He could barely believe his luck and it took him a day to realise the phone call was not another scam and the gold was for real.
“There are so many phone call scams that I didn’t believe when they first told me I had won gold. The next day some people started calling me after hearing my name on radio and that’s when it really struck me that I had won a big prize,” said Benny.
Working as an administrator at a construction company, Benny is yet another lucky shopper who has won gold during the 19th edition of the Dubai Shopping Festival. Benny had purchased a gold chain for his wife in Kozhikode, Kerala and his purchase at a Malabar Gold and Diamonds outlet in Gold Souq did not disappoint him.
“My friend was flying to India and I wanted to send a gift for my wife. It was a good time to shop for gold and I didn’t think twice.”
Little did he know his good intentions would translate into big winnings for his family.
“Such a prize always brings a twist in one’s normal life. Looking at the cost of living, I can definitely say this gold prize is a wonderful gift.”
Benny has already sold the gold and he now plans to invest the money in building his house in Kerala.
“After winning the prize, my hopes have doubled. I will shop more and keep trying to win prizes,” he added.
With a smile he gives credit to his ‘lucky’ fortune and the organisers of DSF for being quick and prompt with the prize.
