Fujairah hosts ITI meet

FUJAIRAH - Shaikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, attended today the opening of the meeting of the executive council of the International Theatre Institute (ITI) of UNESCO.

Representatives from Europe, America, Asia and Africa are participating in the three-day meeting being hosted Fujairah Culture and Information Authority (FCIA).

FCIA Chairman Shaikh Rashid bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi announced that his organisation would bear the costs of designing and development of the ITI website. His address to the meeting was read on his behalf by his deputy Mohammed Saeed Al Dhanhani.

He said His. High Shaikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council member and Ruler of Fujairah, had pledged support for the international organisation out of his belief of the human values the ITI strives to uphold and promote in the service of world arts and culture.

ITI President Ramendu Majumdar paid tribute to the Ruler and Crown Prince of Fujairah and FCIA Chairman for their unstinted support for the ITI.

Secretary General Tobias Biancone also spoke at the meeting outlining the objective of the ITI.

The meeting will review regional and international plans.

The International Theatre Institute (ITI), an international non-governmental organization (NGO) was founded in Prague in 1948 by UNESCO and the international theatre community. A worldwide network, ITI aims “to promote international exchange of knowledge and practice in theatre arts (drama, dance,music theatre) in order to consolidate peace and solidarity between peoples, to deepen mutual understanding and increase creative co-operation between all people in the theatre arts” .
