Lovers of desi food have another reason to cheer. Shahi Mahal restaurant, a reputed name in Pakistani cuisine, is opening in Dubai by the end of August. Run by Umar Farooq Tarar and Malik Iqbal Javed, the restaurant is coming up in Al Quoz 1 (behind Bowling Centre) in Al Faris Mall. Expected to be one of its kind, Shahi Mahal will have a delectable spread of food and taste, and a wide choice in barbecue dishes. With several food options including kebabs, biryani, lamb chops, mutton kadai, and much more on the offering, the restaurant is set to win over foodies in the UAE.
"Our speciality is going to be 'pure desi flavour'. I have been visiting Dubai for quite some time and while the city has a good food scene, we felt that an 'authentic desi vibe' was missing when it comes to food from the subcontinent. With Shahi Mahal restaurant, desis in the UAE will have no reason to complain. Since Europeans, Filipinos and Africans also love our cuisine, we shall be catering to all expats here," Tarar told Khaleej Times.
The proprietors of Shahi Mahal restaurant are keen to bring a complete feel of Pakistan's various regions to Dubai. "We run businesses in Lahore, Sargodha and Islamabad, and have ample experience in customer tastes. Shahi Mahal is going to be very different from other eateries since we aim to give a unique and pure desi feel that only a very few places in the UAE can match," he added.
Shahi Mahal's spread of main course includes various types of barbecue, biryani, kadai, dals and handis. There will be different types of non-vegetarian options, some vegetarian options, an array of salads, popular Pakistani dishes, and a range of choices in desserts. Some of Pakistan's best-known chefs (who run their own businesses) in different parts of the country have been hired for Shahi Mahal.
"We will be offering a delectable range of cuisine for our patrons in Dubai. Chefs from Hyderabad will rustle up biryani, Kashmiri culinary artists will prepare kadais, while experts from Lahore will make dals and handis at Shahi Mahal. We will have two main sections - one for family and another for regular patrons. Diners are expected to enjoy the atmosphere, great views, and covered outdoor eating spaces," Tarar reavealed.
With a philosophy that believes in quality and purity as strong differentiating points from other dining options in Dubai, food at Shahi Mahal is likely to be a perpetual innovation. The chefs and proprietors have vowed to keep the menu up to date, and introduce several original items. "As a strong brand, we will bring in the 'authentic factor' in Dubai's desi food scene. Our menu is going to be different and will adhere to a high level of consistency. We promise our patrons a unique food experience," the proprietors say on a farewell note.
