The five outlets and the workshop are all located close to each other, in the same block. The shop owners have expressed their suspicion about involvement of ‘illegals’ in the crime, who they allege, are eager to leave the country with as much money as they can have.

One of the outlets had the AC removed, with the thieves entering the premises via this route. The owner of this outlet said that nearly Dh6,000 in cash kept in the drawer of the table was taken away by the thieves aside from expensive spare parts.

A police source told Khaleej times that in the past one month, more than seven incidents of theft have been reported in various parts of Sharjah industrial areas. The source added that the gang gains entry to these outlets by using iron saws and screw drivers to break the locks open and remove the ACs.

A number of warehouse and outlet owners in Sharjah industrial Area have urged the authorities to check the growing incidents of theft. They allege that there has been an increase in theft incidents since the announcement of the amnesty.

“During this period, my shop has been burgled twice,” said Sameer, owner of a spare part outlet in the area.

Abed, owner of Auto Workshop said the thieves had removed the AC and entered through window. They decamped with stolen goods worth Dh35,000, he added.

Abed lodged his report with the police who came twice to the workshop to take fingerprints for investigations. “I wish the authorities stop this mess soon,” said Abed.

Zahid, owner of Auto spare parts said his outlet was burgled in July-end and cash and spare parts were stolen. He alleged that the industrial area had become a sanctuary for illegal workers who were now leaving the country for good. He urged the authorities to deploy CID officers in the area.

Meanwhile, a Sharjah Police official said measures were being taken to curb such crimes.

The police have already deployed undercover police officers to watch the absconding workers in industrial areas and strangers in residential areas, he added.
