Responding to an invitation made by Mohammed Ahmed Al Bowardi, Secretary-General of Abu Dhabi's Executive Council and managing director of EAD, the 15 members are from the real estate, urban development and oil sectors and tourism, health and economic departments.
Each of these 15 organisations will now produce its own sustainability report, based on the internationally accepted guidelines for sustainability management -the Global Report Initiative (GRI).
The EAD has already published such a report earlier this year, covering the entire emirate, highlighting the impact made by human beings on the environment.
The group will also gather in quarterly meetings to exchange experiences and identify targets and training needs in the main areas of the sustainability implementation.
The sustainability reports will be presented during these meetings, which will start from September.
"Abu Dhabi is keen to keep the balance between fast development and sustainability requirements," said Majid Al Mansouri, Secretary-General of EAD.
He also invited other businesses and government organisations to join the group.
The initial 15 members are Higher Corporation Specialised Economic Zones, Al Dar, National Bank of Abu Dhabi, Department of Transport, the Economic and Planning Department, Dolphin Energy, Department of Municipal Affairs, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, Sorouh Real Estate, Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Emirates Foundation, Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, EAD, Health Authority -Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority.
