Dubai has strengthened its position as a major entertainment destination in just over years - the time it took to transform a patch of desert into a world class theme park, according to a top official of Dubai Parks and Resorts.
"We went really fast in converting a piece of desert into this amazing destination," Vinit Shah, chief business development and strategy officer of DXB Entertainments PJSC, told Khaleej Times on the eve of the opening of Dubai Parks and Resorts (DPR).
Built at a cost of Dh13.2 billion and spread across 30.6 million square feet of land, Dubai Parks and Resorts is considered as the Middle East's largest multi-themed leisure and entertainment destination comprising three separate parks: Motiongate Dubai (opened on Friday), a Hollywood-inspired venue; Legoland Dubai (opened on October 31), inspired by the popular educational brick toys; and Bollywood Parks (opened November 16), a theme park showcasing Bollywood blockbusters and entertainment.
Located on Shaikh Zayed Road opposite the Palm Jebel Ali in Dubai, equidistant to both Dubai and Abu Dhabi International Airports, the destination offers more than 100 rides and attractions.
John Hallenbeck, Motiongate Dubai general manager, said the three parks are "not competing with each other but actually complementing each other in offering various entertainment that will cater to everyone's taste."
Hallenbeck said they are expecting around 6.7million visitors for the entire DPR in 2017. While DPR has just opened its doors, another theme park is in the pipeline - Six Flags Dubai which is set to open end of 2019.-

Step In Motion
From the reel life to real, Motiongate Dubai brings the thrill and adventure of some of Hollywood's most popular films to Dubai.
The third theme park at Dubai Parks and Resort officially opened on Friday is inspired by movies like the The Smurfs, Ghostbusters and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. A high-energy hip-hop dance show based on the film series Step Up also opened to the public.
"We are taking guests beyond the screen, into a world of cinematic adventure," said Motiongate Dubai general manager John Hallenbeck.
Visitors will encounter a big green ogre, a ghost-busting boy band, a vampire heroine, a Kung Fu fighting panda or a colony of little blue friends, and other stellar supporting cast. They can even escape from a horde of zombies or take a relaxing walk in a charming village of mushroom-capped houses. Motiongate Dubai is spread across five zones; the park's entry boulevard is also designed like a working movie sets out of Hollywood.

Three parks — Motiongate Dubai, Legoland Dubai and Bollywood Parks — offer a multitude of leisure activities for everyone.
