Dh1.3b deal to boost capacity

DUBAI — The Dewa signed three major contracts at a total cost of Dh1.3 billion for enhancing the production capacity of Dewa and its transmission lines on the sidelines of the Seventh Water, Energy Technology and Environment Exhibition (Wetex 2005).

“The first project is the Power Generation Station at Al Aweer (Station H) Phase two at a cost of Dh801 million for increasing the production capacity of the station by 400 mw,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the Managing Director and CEO of Dewa.

“The project consists of three simple gas turbine generators utilising the most advanced technologies, which will be connected to the existing 400kv substations at Al Aweer, in addition to the civil, electrical, and mechanical works. The total production capacity of this station after the completion of the project will reach 1,000mw and is expected to complete in the first quarter of 2006.”

The second project includes the installation, testing, and commissioning of six substations of 132/11kv at a total cost of Dh254 million. The substations will support the transmition lines at Dewa as they will serve the existing and the newly planned areas at the same time such as Al Ras, Al Fahidi, Dubai Land and Parks, Dubai Medical City and the Dragon Market. This project is expected to be complete by the first quarter of 2006, he said.

Al Tayer also added that the third project consists of three main substations of 132/11kv and the laying of 132kv HV cables in the newly developed areas such as the Discovery Park in Jebel Ali and Dubai Land.
