Even though the UAE was affected by the global financial crisis in 2008, a clear vision of the Sustainable Developmental Goals (SDGs) made the UAE one of the first countries to overcome the economic crisis, said Abdulla Mohammed Al Basti, secretary-general of the Dubai Executive Council.
Al Basti was speaking at the third edition of the UAE Public Policy Forum on Sunday. Leading government officials have said that the UAE is well prepared to face challenges and set clear guidelines to achieve national as well as global sustainability goals.
Organised by the Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government (MBRSG), the forum is being held in collaboration with the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority (FCSA). Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed Al Maktoum inaugurated the third session of the forum on Sunday.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Hanan Ahli, executive director of the competitiveness sector, FCSA, announced that in order to achieve the objectives of sustainable development, Dubai has formed an advisory council to engage the private sector in driving the development process.
"The establishment of the Centre for Fourth Industrial Revolution in the UAE is one of the many examples of the UAE's contributions in building a prosperous future," she added.
Al Basti said the UAE's statement about 'celebrating the export of the last barrel of oil' is a formal acknowledgement that sustainable development is a reality.
