Channel 4 told to focus on humanitarian issues

AJMAN — The new studio of Ajman Satellite and TV Channel 4, known by its frequency number 107.8 FM, was inaugurated yesterday by His Highness Shaikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman.

The opening ceremony was attended by Shaikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman, Shaikh Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Ajman Department of Municipality and Planning, and top officials from various government departments and the staff of Ajman TV and Radio.

The first live interview in the new studio was conducted by Abdullah Rashid, presenter of Channel 4 and Peoples programme, with Shaikh Humaid Al Nuaimi who talked about the role of media in contributing to the development of the country by highlighting issues. He hailed the efforts made by Channel 4 and Peoples programme which receives public complaints about the lack of services offered by any government department and contacting the officials concerned to solve the problems. This programme would make the officials and employess feel that the public are evaluating their performance. The programme is also successful in resolving so many humanitarian problems of expatriates as well as UAE nationals.

Shaikh Humaid urged the programme to give more attention to issues of the traffic and municipality concerned, besides providing information on traffic rules and safety. The development of media also should cope with rapid progress in the country including developments pertaining to real estate and construction in all emirates.

During the second live interview aired by the channel, Shaikh Rashid urged its presenters to highlights public issues. "As officials we are ready to solve problems of the public through this programme and my telephone is always on to receive media's calls for comments," he said.

He said the government of Ajman has approved a housing project which was aimed at providing UAE nationals with 100 houses in Hilaiwa. The project was launched under instructions of Shaikh Humaid Al Nuaimi as part of his concern about the difficult economic situation of widows, divorcees and elderly people who depend on the social welfare assistance.
