Championship Gaming Series comes to Dubai

DUBAI — Championship Gaming SeriesTM (CGS), the first worldwide professional gaming league, has announced that it will be establishing a regional franchise located in Dubai this year.

Senior Vice-President for CGS Global Operations Scott Valencia said CGS is the first worldwide professional video gaming league, televised to more than 100,000,000 households on five continents.

“ It is the only pro gaming organisation where gamers are paid professional athletes. Gamers compete on teams and the teams compete as part of an organized professional league,” he said.

“CGS is well established in the US and the Dubai franchise will be one of 10 additional global franchise locations to be announced this year.”

Dubai Summer Surprises(DSS) Senior Events Coordinator Tshering Idnani the joint venture between DSS and CGS would add value to the festivalís events this season.

“It is no secret that the Gaming Industry has become one of the most effective economy engines in several countries in the world. Its lucrative revenues and overwhelming popularity has made it impossible for any one to ignore its impact.”

Statistics show that video games generate US$13 billion annually — exceeding Hollywood box office takings by US$3.5 billion. The CGS Commissioner, Andy Reif said, “We’re excited to announce our Dubai franchise and look forward to revealing the team name and drafting the Dubai team members later this year at a Regional Championship event to be announced soon.”
