The crew alerted airport security officials, who combed the aircraft for explosives but found none.

A flydubai spokesperson said: “We can confirm that a passenger on board FZ144 from Amman to Dubai on January 10 claimed to be carrying an explosive device. flydubai takes the safety of our passengers and crew very seriously, so our crew immediately alerted the relevant authorities.’’ The suspect was whisked away for questioning and investigations are on. ‘‘The passenger was taken away for questioning and the rest of the passengers were offloaded while a thorough search of the plane was conducted. No explosives were found. The flight continued to DXB and landed safely. We would like to praise the authorities for their swift action, which ensured the flight suffered a minimum delay in take off of 1 hour and 5 minutes.”

An earlier report said the suspect in question was a co-pilot, but the airline denied the report. “The passenger in question does not, and never has, worked for flydubai,” a statement from the airline said.

Jordanian news agency Petra, quoting a source, said the man allegedly made the threat after the flight crew refused to allow him to enter the cockpit.
