Bohra community celebrates 100th birthday of spiritual leader

DUBAI — The Dawoodi Bohra community worldwide celebrates the 100th birthday of their spiritual leader Dr Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin on Friday.

Dr Syedna will be celebrating the joyous occasion in Mumbai, India. Community members from all over India and abroad have converged in Mumbai to greet their beloved leader and seek blessings. At least 4,000 members have flown to Mumbai from the UAE.

Dr Syedna will address the worldwide community and pray for international peace and harmony on the occasion.

As many as 52,000 sparrow feeders were distributed across the world by the Burhani Foundation (India), an environment institution established by Dr Syedna.

More than 500 medical camps and health seminars were held under the guidance of Burhani Medical ‘Idarah’ an umbrella medical body of the community.

The prestigious multi-million Saifee Burhani Upliftment Trust (SBUT) 4,000 housing project in Greater Mumbai was also started during these auspicious days. Besides, a number of highly subsidised green house projects such as the Burhani Centenary Park in Surat, India, and Mohammedi Centenary Park in Karjat, India, have been initiated.

Other programmes include mass marriages known as ‘Rasme Saifee’, trade fairs under the name of ‘Burhani Expo’, business seminars and various self development programmes. Special workshops and competitions for adults and children for memorising the HolyQuran, an international athletics meet in Indore, India and an international car rally were also held by the community.

Public functions were attended by dignitaries, government officials, prominent citizens and members of other communities.

Across the UAE as throughout the world, the community will pray for the continued good health and long life of Dr Syedna and also for the progress and prosperity of the country.

Dr Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin’s achievements are many as are his major concerns for health, education and environment.
