Dave Heeley - ‘Blind Dave’ as he likes to be known - from the UK, will run fifth leg of his marathon in Safa Park on April 11.

According to Foresight, a local Dubai non-profit organisation that supports the event, Heeley will be running with his sighted guide in Safa Park.

“To support the effort of Dave and to raise funds, we will conduct a pre- event at Safa Park on April 7 - a 12 hours long ‘Night of Marathons’ - starting at 6pm and finishing at 6am. Dh 60 donation is expected from the participants to raise funds to help visually impaired in the UAE,” Foresight said in a statement said.

“I started fundraising to help research into a cure for the disease Retinitis Pigmentosa, which has made me lose my sight, by running the Dubai and London Marathons. Dave is also blind from the same cause. Foresight is delighted to be involved with this amazing challenge,” said Katy Newitt, Chairwoman of Foresight.
