The Beit Al Khair Society has contributed Dh160 million to indigent families in 2017, the Year of Giving.
These were part of Dh213.7 million spent on an array of charitable projects, according to Abdeen Taher Al Awadhi, general director of Beit Al Khair Society.
Official records show that Beit Al Khair contributed Dh49.3 million as monthly cash allowances to some 4,000 needy and low-income families in 2017.
"Up to Dh39.4 million were distributed among people in crisis and Dh15.3 million in monthly food support to eligible families."
The society also paid Dh2.3 million against household items and necessary electric devices, maintained a number of houses against Dh694,480 and gave Dh2.6 million as an additional food aids, he added.
"The society spent Dh9.1 million on the Ramadan Meer project, whereby food coupons were disbursed to listed beneficiaries to buy their needs from partner malls and cooperative societies."
Free Iftar meals, worth Dh5.1million, were distributed at more than 45 locations across the country, while Dh1.8 spent on the Zakat Al Fitr project.
"Up to Dh38.2million were contributed as feast gifts during Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha, while Dh1.2 million has been spent on sacrificial livestock."
