They are visiting Kuwait, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Muscat.

The Cultural Foundation hosted the BBC Young Musician of the Year concert. The programme presented at the Cultural Foundation included Bernstein’s clarinet sonata and Macmillan’s After the Tryst.

Arranged by the UK Penny Adie Productions, this is the eight tour of the BBC Young Musician of the Year to the Gulf region, the first one was in 1992.

The competition itself was founded in 1978. Broadcast on BBC2, it is a biannual event that attracts several million viewers worldwide.

In 2006, the title of BBC Young Musician of the Year went to Mark Simpson, a clarinetist who shows a musical maturity way beyond his teenage years.

In addition to being a composer, he also plays the piano.

This year was very good for Mark as he also won the BBC Proms Young Composer of the Year title, the first person ever to win both young musician and composer competition in the same year.
