Bangabandhu Gold Cup Football Tournament UAE 2020

The Bangladesh Consulate General in Dubai and the Bangladesh community in the UAE jointly organises Bangabandhu Gold Cup football tournament, UAE 2020

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Father of the Nation, was born on March 17, 1920. To commemorate the birth centenary of Bangabandhu, the Bangladesh government announced to celebrate 'Mujib Year' from March 17, 2020, until March 17, 2021. On January 10, 2020, the countdown of the 'Mujib Year' begun. The Bangladesh Consulate General in Dubai and the Bangladesh community in the UAE jointly organised the Bangabandhu Gold Cup football tournament, UAE 2020, from January 24, 2020 where 16 Bangladeshi football teams from the seven different emirates participated namely:

. BD community, Al Falah
After the first round of the tournament, the eight following teams qualified for the quarter finals - Dubai, Rolla, Ajman, Al Madam, Khorfakkan, Murbah, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. In the two quarter finals held on February 28, Al Madam and Dubai qualified for the semi-finals.
The remaining two quarter finals, semi-finals and final matches have been postponed due to the coronavirus or Covid-19 pandemic. After the situation comes back to normalcy, the remaining matches will be held. The first round and both the quarter finals were held in Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Al Ain, Umm Al Quwain, Dubai and Al Awir stadiums, and the rest of the matches will be held in Ajman, Sharjah and Dubai Police Officers' Club Stadiums. The tournament created a cheerful environment among the Bangladeshi communities while they celebrated the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
