In a disturbing video circulated online, three Saudi nurses were found distorting and squashing a newborn baby's face. The nurses at Taif Children's Hospital in the Mecca Province of southwest Saudi Arabia have been fired since the incident came to light after the video went viral.
The Ministry of Health and Taif Children's Hospital confirmed the incident on their official Twitter accounts and stated that the guilty nurses have been identified and their professional licenses have been revoked.
The video shows one of the nurses holding the infant by the neck and squashing its face presumably to make it look funny, while the other nurses can be heard laughing. The infant's father stated that the baby was hospitalized for 10 days due to a urinary tract infection and he came to know of the incident only after seeing the video online.
"The Health Affairs was able to identify the nurses in the video and the hospital where the incident took place," Abdulhadi Al-Rabie, Taif Health Affairs spokesman, was quoted saying in Saudi Gazette.
Apart from being suspended, the nurses are now banned from practising nursing in other health sectors as well.
The viral footage sparked an outrage online.
