Running until July 2 at the Waterfall Atrium in Dubai Mall, the show is centered on a town called LazyTown and its inhabitants.

The main characters of the show are Sportacus, LazyTown’s slightly-above-average superhero; Stephanie, an eight-year-old girl who is new to LazyTown; Ziggy, the lovable and constantly candy-eating kid; and Robbie, the silly resident villain.

Show timings are 7.30pm and 9pm from Sunday to Thursday and 6pm, 7.30pm and 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays. There will be no shows on Monday. The show is free for all. The Dubai Mall is a strategic partner of Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment.

In LazyTown — the Energy Record, Stephanie and Ziggy are trying to set a new energy record in the town they are visiting. They call for Sportacus for help but Robbie appears and the energy metre is going further and further down. Sportacus finally comes to help and he gets the audience to help him to do some superhero moves. Robbie gives Sportacus a Candy Apple and he faints. An audience member has an apple that is given to Sportacus. He gets up on his feet and together with the audience and Stephanie and Ziggy they set a new energy record. Mercato welcomes DSS into its Fairyland with its Fantasia theme. Several events and activities are lined up for children to enjoy this enchanting ambience. Art and craft workshops for children, musicians, caricaturists, still walkers and numerous other entertaining acts are on at Mercato throughout the DSS.

A giant man-made iceberg is beckoning families and tourists 100 metres off the coast of Dubai since June 23 as part of Coca-Cola’s refreshment campaign this DSS 2011. The 2,000 cubic-metre, 14-metre high and 30-metre wide iceberg was revealed to guests attending an exclusive yacht party hosted by Coca-Cola Middle East, with an impressive laser show that lit up the huge structure.

The iceberg reveal was organised by Coca Cola ME as one of the highlights of Dubai Summer Surprises 2011, and was attended by senior officials from Coca Cola, the main sponsor of this edition of DSS, and Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment (DEPE), an agency of DED and the organisers of DSS, in addition to local and international media.

The iceberg, higher than a four-storey building and wider than a tennis court, was constructed using Styrofoam and 650 tonnes of steel, with over 900 square metres of white paint used to cover the surface. The iceberg can be seen floating off the coast of Dubai until June 30.

Antoine Tayyar, Public Affairs and Communications Director, Coca-Cola Middle East, said: “What better way to celebrate the campaign and kick off the beginning of our involvement in Dubai Summer Surprises than by bringing a touch of Arctic chill to Dubai via the first manmade iceberg in the UAE, and probably worldwide!”

Farhad Abdulrahman, Director of Customer, Brand Development and Innovation at Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment, said: “Dubai Summer Surprises is one of the best-known summer events in the region. Its colourful diversity and ability to attract families from diverse nationalities makes it an ideal platform for innovative events such as the Coca Cola iceberg event. Additionally, Coca Cola and DSS share the same core values of spreading joy and happiness among people.” lily@khaleejtimes.com
