Residents of Ajman’s town of Manamah (located between Al Dhaid and Masafi) and its nearby nine villages had to travel a minimum of 15kms for an ATM about a week ago.
The nearest ATM for the township and 9 villages was in Masafi, 15kms away from Manamah, while the others close to the area are in Al Dhaid and Adhen’s lone ATM at a petrol station, both at a distance of 20km from Manamah. Manamah has a population of over 6,000 and its nearby villages have about 18,000 – Wadi Ghail and Naseem 3,000 each; Suhaihla, Thoban and Hanya 25,00 each; Siji 2,000; Shouhka 1,500; Wadi Isfini 600; and Qadra 500. “It’s a great New Year gift for us. Now we don’t have to head for Al Dhaid or Adhen for withdrawing petty cash. This machine will serve all the nearby villages as Manamah is the centre of all these villages,” said Zayed Mohammed Khair, a resident.
According to him, the people of the area have been demanding these kinds of services for a long time.
“Manamah is a township with more than nine villages around and should have had these facilities pretty early. I also request local investors to invest in services such as private schools and private health facilities which are missing in the area,” added Khair.
Saeed Al Mazami, a resident of Naseem, said it was good news for him because he had to drive to either Al Dhaid or Adhen for small cash. He said: “I have health problem and it was difficult to drive every time for small cash. Now it is a matter of five minutes. The good thing is that the ATM is at our lone hypermarket which we frequent for shopping to get daily foodstuff.”
Al Mazami further added the township needs more facilities like parks for children and a pharmacy at least. The township of Manamah and its entire villages have no 24 hour clinics, private health centres, private schools and pharmacies.Nassir Mohammed Azeem, another resident of the area, said the first ATM in the town has brought joy to the local residents. He said: “We need more such facilities. There are many fuel stations in the area, but none, other than Adhen, have facilities like ATMs. “The critical issue in the area is that it has no pharmacies or clinics. We have government clinics, but their doors are closed after 7pm. We need 24-hour clinics, particularly emergency and traumatic centres here.” — nissar@khaleejtimes.com
