As part of its strategic plan for future, the Ajman government is planning to establish a new sea port in Al Zowra area with a cost of Dh2 billion.
Sheikh Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Ajman Customs and Port Department, told Khaleej Times that the drawings and designs of the project is ready and was reviewed by Sheikh Amar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman, through a video presentation. He said the project will be launched soon.
The port project will include deep berth for the ships and a powerful infrastructure that will allow docking of giant ships.
The port will include a 500-metre long marine pavement and 3km-long bridge and would be able to facilitate ships that can carry 5,000 goods containers. The project also will include a land station to be used for storing containers and providing logistic services.
Pavement will be equipped with cranes to load and off-load the containers and will be linked with the land station to facilitate the movement of the containers.
The project also includes multi-storey office buildings as well as control and operation room to detect all the activities and works on the pavement and the port. The new port will also be linked with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Roads as well as some other internal roads within the emirate.
Sheikh Mohammed Al Nuaimi said that the new port will enhance competition and will be one of the important ports in the region. It will contribute to the economic growth in the emirate.
He said that Sheikh Amar also met the employees of the current port and reviewed the functioning. "We also highlighted the electronic services project of the port to the Crown Prince."
He said that such new projects will contribute to enhancing investment and trade, and will also ensure job opportunities for the Emirati youth.
He said that the current Ajman port is witnessing big increase in the movement of the ships and containers. He attributed the success of the port to the high quality of recently executed projects and the use of advanced technology to provide best services for the customers.
