The plan will be implemented after its approval by the Ajman Exective Council soon, according to Ali Al Hamrani, Director-General of Ajman Municipality.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, he said that the development plan is ready for approval and immediate implementation. It takes into account the developmental needs of the emirate till 2015, according to him.

Al Hamrani said the plan includes several development projects in the areas of economy, tourism, archaeology and infrastructure to help the emirate be in line with the most advanced cities in the world.

As part of the plan, Al Hamrani said that the municipality will begin working on expansion of roads and bridges to facilitate better traffic movement. New markets, shopping malls, a family entertainment centre and parks will also be set up during this year.

He pointed out that the municipality will also introduce more advanced techniques to control food markets, manufacturers and outlets to ensure public health in the emirate. These techniques will help in ensuring that the food sellers are abiding by the health regulations and quality standard specifications set by the civic body.

The municipality’s central laboratory will take samples from all types of imported raw materials that are intended to be used in food manufacturing before they enter the country.

Al Hamrani said that from the begining of this year, the cleaning and landscaping works would be improved by increasing the number of workers and supervisors to cover all parts of the emirate in order to preserve the environment and maintain cleanliness.

Regarding the development of tourism in the emirate, he said that the municipality, in coordination with other government departments, will establish five-star hotels and a huge public entertainment centre in Al Helaiwa district.

Speaking about the housing planning programme, Al Hamrani said that the municipality will be working on enhancing the planning of many residential areas including Al Bustan and Al Nuaimia districts where many old houses will be demolished and roads will be expanded.

Commenting on the municipality’s achievements during 2004, Al Hamrani said that the emirate has already witnessed improvement and development in the fields of road construction, agriculture and environment as well as hygiene and health services.

The violations in many areas have decreased by over 80 per cent compared to the previous years. He pointed out that the municipality implemented several projects to beautify and expand the corniche to make it a recreational area for the public.

Following the expansion of the road, it also constructed two roundabouts over an area of 3,000sqm each and beautified them with flowerbeds and trees.

Al Hamrani said that as part of its beautification and landscaping programme, the municipality opened two parks at Mushairif and Al Jarf areas. The Al Jarf Park is one of several community parks that are being constructed in several residential areas in the emirate.
