Ahalia Hospital wins JCI accreditation
ABU DHABI — Ahalia Hospital, the flagship of Ahalia medical group, operating in the UAE since 1984, has been accredited by Joint Commission International (JCI), the hospital announced on Tuesday.
The surveyors from JCI USA, inspected the hospital in the beginning of this month and at the end of four days of arduous survey they decided to give accreditation to the hospital after observing the compliance to the standards JCI had put forward.
The hospital is also the recipient of ISO 9001 — 2001 and the prestigious Shaikh Khalifa Appreciation Award consecutively for two cycles (2005-2006 & 2006-2007) given by the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Around 300 hospitals across the world have been accredited till date by the JCI. These standards focus on the most important areas to provide safe and quality patient care which including identification of patient, infection control, and medication safety among others.
During the survey, all the measurable elements totalling 1,249 different criteria, were assessed for ensuring compliance. Ahalia Medical Group also have eight medical centres across the UAE. They also have a chain of pharmacies and trading division of medical equipment.
The Indian venture, Ahalia Foundation Eye hospital situated in Palakkad, district is the first hospital in Kerala to receive the prestigious JCI accreditation, in 2010. “By receiving the JCI accreditation, our commitment to the society and the stake holders has increased. We consider this as an appreciation of the trust that is bestowed on us by the general public of the UAE,” Dr V R Anilkumar, Medical Director, Ahalia Hospital said.
“For the last 25 years we have tried our level best to meet the health care needs of the people of Abu Dhabi. We used to conduct free medical camps all over the emirate to serve those who don’t have an easy access to medical facilities,” he added.
The group’s next major project is the upcoming 100-bed hospital in Mussafah, at an estimated cost of nearly Dh200 million. The group also plans to start medical centres and pharmacies in all emirates in the near future.
