The Abu Dhabi Department of Transport (DoT) will introduce 550 air-conditioned busstops in the emirate of Abu Dhabi in 2008, a statement from the DoT said yesterday.

The DoT yesterday invited investors to bid for the design, construction and maintenance of the busstop shelters under a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) contract.

The shelters will feature an iconic design with comfortable seats, good ventilation, ample illumination, wheel-chair access.

An official from the DoT told Khaleej Times yesterday, the deadline for collecting the tender documents from the investors is November 25, while the deadline for submitting detailed proposals with the DoT is December 25.

The new busstop shelters will be equipped with round-the-clock information monitors to update passengers on relevant and important information.
