Plans for the school include setting up classes inside Dubai Women’s College (DWC), as students will get to interact with college seniors and get a first-hand look at college life during their school years.

Dr Howard Reed, director of DWC, said there are many universities and colleges around the world that run very successful high schools on their campuses.

“This will be a prototype blended learning school that will give talented female students the opportunity to prepare for an ambitious educational future. It will also provide a much needed new model of secondary education in Dubai,” he pointed out.

“It’s a very unique concept and we hope to prepare students for any university that they wish to study at.”

According to Howard, students entering public universities in the UAE end up spending on an average two years in their foundation programme.

“Students coming out of high schools in the UAE are not prepared for higher studies and they end up spending a long time in the foundation years. For this reason, we have decided to open up a new school which will provide students with state-of-the art facilities,” said Howard.

DWC High School will initially begin with 60 students in Grade 9, offering students a blended curriculum with Islamic Studies, Social Science and Fitness taught at the school campus itself.

Interestingly, other classes would be hosted online through video-conferencing, as students will be able to benefit from the teaching expertise of teachers situated in other parts of the world.

Jeff Herr, head of DWC High School, said that the vision of DWC High School is to create the best learning environment for young women which helps prepares them to be leaders for the future.
