A message on wheels

DUBAI - A motorcycle and cycle parade on June 26 will mark the World Anti-Narcotics Day activities organised by Dubai Police, a top police officer announced on Wednesday.

The awareness programme will be held under the auspices of Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police. It will be a joint effort by the CID and the General Directorate of Community Service that operates under Dubai Police.

Colonel Abdul Jalil Mahdi, Deputy Head of the Anti-Narcotics Department of Dubai Police, said that such activities were part of other police functions in the UAE. He said that part of the activities would be the first annual forum on the problem of drugs that will be opened by Lt. Gen. Dhahi at the Dubai Police Officers Club on June 27. Top local experts in various fields will take part in the forum that will include an open discussion before recommendations are announced.

Another activity will be a parade by cycles and motorcycles in cooperation with Al Ahli Club, the UAE Cyclists Association and the UAE Motor Sports Association. It will kick off at 5pm today, under the slogan `Towards a narcotics-free society'.

The motorcycles parade will take place in Bur Dubai. It will start at the Heritage Village in Shindagha, pass through Bur Dubai, Karama, Mankhool, Satwa, Al Wasl, Safa, Jumeirah, Jumeirah Road, Umm Suqeim, Burj Al Arab area, and return over the fourth flyover on Shaikh Zayed Road towards Deira via Al Garhood Bridge, Shaikh Rashid bin Saeed Road, Al Ittihad Road and finally Al Tawar Road.

The cycle parade will start from Al Ahli Club and pass through Hor Al Anz, Hamriyah, Burj Nahar, Muraggabat, Safia, and reach Al Quds Road, forming a unified parade that will pass through the airport's Free Zone Road, Al Nahda and return to the Al Ahli Club.
