The Low-Income Committee of the Dar Al Ber Society (Dabs) will distribute food packages to 500 needy families in Umm Al Quwain.
The foodstuff packages will be given out to registered eligible families starting next week, according to a senior official.
Amira Al Shamsi, deputy head of the committee, said they spare no effort to help vulnerable segments of society and whoever is in need.
"The committee, part of the 37-year-old Dar Al Ber Society which is based in Dubai, does not only provide food to destitute people but also runs a variety of programmes to support them."
The committee, with the help of philanthropists, contributes medical allowances to poor patients, she explained. Pending service bills and house rents are also contributed, she added. "The committee is also planning a number of charity projects to help the poor and needy in commemoration of the 45th UAE National Day."
Dabs has received several requests for house maintenance, all submitted by UAE nationals. "However, priority is always given to most urgent and needy cases."
Official records show that the 11-year-old committee has spent over Dh50 million on 51,412 beneficiaries over the last 11 years.
