Speaking to Khaleej Times, Major Abdullah Saif, who heads the investigation wing of Ajman Police, said the three accused — all Africans — had robbed several bank customers by following them till they made a halt and then breaking into their cars to make good with the cash. The investigation revealed that the accused — M.R., 32, Y.M., 34, and S.O., 38 — had entered the country on visit visas. They claimed that they had come to the UAE for pursuing trade activities.

Major Abdullah divulged that the police had received several complaints from customers of various banks in the emirate about the spate of robberies taking place in the vicinity of banks. Investigating officers set a trap and the gang was nabbed red-handed when one of them tried to remove money from the decoy's car by breaking open the windshield, in the process setting off an alarm that alerted the police. During the interrogation, the trio confessed to other robberies that matched complaints filed with the police.

The police officer urged people visiting banks to keep alert while carrying large sums of money after exiting banks or exchange offices. He reassured that special patrols were being deployed in the emirate to ensure the safety and security of the public as well as to track down offenders who were on the lookout for a safe haven in Ajman.
