14 industrial establishments fined in Sharjah

A total of 14 industrial establishments were fined during a crackdown carried out on Saturday evening in Sharjah's Al Sajjah area.
The crackdown was carried out by Sharjah Economic and Development Department, (SEDD) in cooperation with Sharjah City Municipality's "Environment Section", General Directorate of the Civil Defence and Police Headquarters. It targeted factories dealing with metal fusion, chemical material, dyes and  blacksmithing.
Sultan Abdullah bin Hadda Al Suwaidi, Chairman of SEDD, said that the inspection campaign aimed at ensuring the safety of economic practices, curbing negative phenomena, and preventing harm of public security, and health as well as protecting the environment in the emirate.
He praised the efforts made by all the entities participating in the campaign. He also emphasised on the need to continue such cooperation among the various local authorities in the emirate.
Hassan Bual Housh, Deputy Head of Commercial Control Section at SEDD, said that the inspection was held in the evening. The campaign resulted in seizing 14 facilities for violation. Some violations were issued for the odours and wastes that were coming out from the factories.
Bual Housh assured that SEDD pays great attention to such campaigns to ensure the safety of markets and commercial facilities.
Hassan Bual Housh pointed out that it is important to increase the level of mutual cooperation between all the concerned departments and authorities by holding periodical meetings, forming committees and preparing surveys as well as studies.
He said things will have a positive impact on the development of the work and will improve the quality of services provided to investors in the economic sector. "Also, they will help in making the emirate's environment  attractive for investment and investors to attain the sustainable economic development," he said.
Speaking to Khaleej Times, a top official at Sharjah municipality said that they are working on intensified inspection targeting illegal activities that harm public health and environment. The cooperation with other departments will continue till all the violations are caught.
