108 cars impounded in Ajman for racing on Emirates Road

AJMAN — The Ajman Police on Friday impounded 108 vehicles after their owners were caught racing on the Emirates Road.

The youngsters, including UAE nationals and Arab expatriates, were violating traffic safety rules and posing danger to others, said Brig. Ali Saeed Matroushi, Director of Traffic and Accidents Section in the Ajman Traffic and Licence Department.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, Brig. Matroushi said most of the cars were found carrying forged number plates.

He explained that a tip-off was received at the operations room about a large number of youngsters grouping by the roadsides to launch car races in the middle of the night in the Al Helewa area of Ajman. Following orders issued by Ajman Police Director-General Col Ali Alwan, a police team was rushed to the Al Helewa area where a large number of youngsters had indeed assembled and were conducting car races, endangering the lives of others.

Car racing activities on highways or internal roads are against the federal traffic rules.

The police have installed surveillance cameras to monitor the traffic on the Emirates Road, especially during weekends and holidays to ensure safety for other motorists.

He urged the young motorists to avoid reckless driving and to follow traffic safety rules and procedures. He also warned them against conducting car races on public roads as it could cause danger to other motorists.
