The government and army expressed their resolve on Monday to eliminate terrorism while Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif lauded the role of Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) and other security agencies in ensuring peace in the country.

The prime minister presided over a high-level meeting to review some important matters of the national security here.

The meeting was attended by Chief of the Army Staff, General Raheel Sharif, ISI chief Lt-Gen. Zaheer-ul-Islam, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi and others.

Taleban seek time to consult over talks: Ibrahim

PESHAWAR — Member of the Taleban talks committee Professor Ibrahim Khan has said that Tehreek-e-Taleban Pakistan (TTP) has sought one or two days time to consult over ongoing dialogue process with the government.

Talking to a private TV channel, Prof. Ibrahim said the committee’s coordinator Maulana Yousaf Shah has recently contacted Taleban Shura and they will send their reply in a day or two. He said the government and TTP negotiators will meet Taleban Shura in tribal areas and venue will be decided within two days.

Agenda of talks is peace, thus, ceasefire from both sides is necessary to continue the dialogue process, he added.

The Taleban negotiator said that detailed demands should be presented this time to move ahead in the talks process. He said a sub-committee is also being formed to deal with the complaints of both sides. — Online

Speaking on the occassion the premier said all the institutions will continue to work in synergy for protection of the public.

He appreciated security institutions particularly role of the ISI for ensuring security and peace in the country.

The high-level meeting decided to continue dialogue with the Tehreek-i-Taleban Pakistan (TTP) despite recent terror atacks and finalised the agenda for the next round of dialogue. Sources said the high-ups discussed recent wave of terrorism in the backdrop of ongoing dialogue process with Taleban militants. The meeting also reviewed progress in the peace talks and conditions set by the outlawed Tehrik-e-Taleban Pakistan (TTP) for extension in ceasefire.

The meeting discussed national security and the peace in the region.

The meeting also discussed the situation in Afghanistan after recently held presidential election.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar briefed the meeting on the progress made so far in the dialogue process.

“It’s high time to make talks with the TTP successful or take it to some logical conclusion,” Nisar told the meeting.

The ISI chief briefed the meeting on the progress made so far in the investigation into recent terrorist attacks in the country and shared detailed evidence in this regard.

He assured the meeting that the mastermind of such attacks would be unmasked soon and brought to book. — Online
