Oman-based filmmaker Akshay Kumar Parija's latest movie Kadvi Hawa (Dark Wind) has won the President's Award at the 64th National Film Awards in India.
Earlier, Akshay Kumar Parija's Indo-Oman production Jianta Bhoota (The Living Ghost) had also won Indian government's prestigious award for 'The Best Film on Environment Issues' at the 56th National Film Awards.
Kadvi Hawa (Dark Wind) is based on global warming and climate change, the greatest challenge of our time. This film is based on true stories from drought-prone Bundelkhand region and the vanishing villages from coastal Odisha in India. The film deals with the effects of climate change in different regions of India, which is now evident globally.
The film is about a blind old man and a young bank loan recovery agent, both coming from two extreme weather conditions, who are in no way responsible for the global climate change, yet fight for their survival.
Sharing his experiences Parija said: "I am glad to work with the Padma Shri Awardee director, Nila Madhab Panda, and that too on a very pertinent subject of present day effects of world climate change. It was overwhelming to know that our movie got awarded at the 64th National Awards. It's a very powerful film on a contemporary subject and awards definitely encourage us."
