The story of a man who, recently, tried to enter the Grand Mosque in Makkah, has gone viral online. The Arab man was stopped at the gate by one of the guards.
According to reports in local media, the incident took place last week on Thursday, when an Arab expatriate was stopped by a guard at one of the gates of the Grand Mosque as he tried to enter it.
A photo, taken by a passerby, shows the man dressed in a red polo tee over blue jeans trying to enter the mosque on his blue bicycle.
Director of the department of doors Muhammad Bati said it was obvious that the man did not know that bicycles were not allowed inside the Grand Mosque, Saudi Gazette reported.
"The man had fears that his bicycle might be stolen if he left it outside so he wanted to take it with him inside the Haram," he added.
Bati said the guards at the door leading to the Masaa from the eastern side of the mosque explained to the visitor that bicycles were among the items which are prohibited at the Grand Mosque.

He further added that the cyclist was understanding and left.
Items not allowed in Haram
According to Bati, the items not allowed inside the Haram include, among others, clothes with indecent illustrations, heavy machinery, utensils and accessories, suitcases, soft drinks, mattresses and sleeping materials, all types of food, cameras and mobile beds.
