Kurdish leader announces ‘liberation’ of Sinjar from Daesh

The president of Iraq's Kurdish region says the strategic mountain town of Sinjar has been fully retaken from the Daesh group.
Speaking to Kurdish fighters in Sinjar, Massoud Barzani said Friday's victory in the town is important because "it has become a symbol of injustice against the Kurdish people."
Iraqi Kurdish militias battling to take back Sinjar raised a Kurdish flag and fired off celebratory gunfire in the centre of town earlier on Friday, though US and Kurdish officials had cautioned that it was too soon to declare victory in a major offensive to retake the strategic community.
