“The six-nation Arab Gulf cooperation supports the Kingdom of Bahrain on the basis of the fact that the security of the Gulf is indivisible,” said GCC Secretary-General Abdul Rahman Al Attaiya.
In a statement after the 117th preparatory meeting for the GCC Summit conference, scheduled for December 6 and 7 in Abu Dhabi, Al Attaiya said that the meeting had reviewed the arrangements for the Summit and discussed the GCC joint action — in political, economic, development, security, military and social development fields. The meeting was chaired by UAE Foreign Minister Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The meeting also reviewed education, infrastructure and the proposed projects submitted to the summit. In his opening keynote address, Shaikh Abdullah highlighted important issues relating to the region. He pointed to the challenges which the GCC foreign ministers need to address in line with the purpose and objectives of the council that are aimed at protecting the member states and achieving unity among them. “We, amid these events, should upgrade the GCC joint action within the vision of the state of Qatar, which had demonstrated two years ago or the Kingdom of Bahrain’s vision, which was recommended at the meeting yesterday( Wednesday),” he said in a statement after the meeting.
Al Attiya said that the meeting came up with some recommendations and decisions.
Al Attiya pointed out that the GCC advisory board has suggested during its meeting with the ministerial council a number of issues to be studied during its coming 14th session to be held in 2011. The topics include the free trade agreement with the economically big countries, alternative energy, unifying GCC states’ efforts in translation and Arabicisation field, setting up a unified civil aviation authority and opening up the air space amongst the GCC member states, setting up a GCC authority for relief and dealing with any natural catastrophes and taking care of education’s quality and training.
