Former Senate chairman Nayyar Hussain Bokhari and his son Jarrar Bokhari were granted protective bails by a district court in Islamabad.
Earlier on May 5, a local had issued their arrest warrants on charge of slapping and misbehaving with a police official who tried to conduct Bokhari's body search when he was entering the city courts. The police surrounded his house to arrest him but later let him appear before the Islamabad sessions judge for bail.
The judge directed Bokhari and his son to submit bail bonds worth Rs20,000.
Talking to reporters, Bokhari claimed that he is being targeted by the Nawaz Sharif government to divert public attention from Panama Leaks.
PPP senior leader Syed Khurshid Shah and Islamabad bar association have voiced support for Bokhari alleging that a bogus case has been registered against him.
Nayyar Bokhari is a senior lawyer who remained Senate chairman during the PPP government and also acted as president a number of times when the then president Asif Zardari went abroad.
