Contingency plan for countering measles
The director of public health department, Dr Mariam AlHajri, has said that a meeting was held recently to coordinate the vaccination campaigns against measles, in light of the 15 cases of measles that have been detected since the beginning of 2014.
She said that the registered cases have come from other countries, where it seemed that children who contracted the disease or others were either not vaccinated or could not complete their vaccination programme.
The meeting that included representatives from all relevant departments of health ministry reviewed the vaccination campaigns carried out for students of a number of public and private schools and residential areas where measles cases were detected.
A precautionary plan have been developed to counter the measles virus that included launching wider vaccination campaigns to cover other residential areas and private and government schools to prevent the spread of the disease in the kingdom.
‘Muharraq’ has a green gate
A vertical garden, which is the first of its kind in Middle East, was opened recently in Muharraq.
It is considered as the gate of the ancient city and part of the projects of the Shaikh Ibrahim Centre for Culture and Research to revive and preserve the heritage of Muharraq.
The green gate was designed by a French expert, in which he selected 200 plants that could survive and grow in desert climate.
Animal production show kicks off on March 21
Bahrain Animal Production Show (Maraee) 2014 is set to be held at the Bahrain Endurance Village in Zallaq from March 21 to 24, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Dr Juma’a bin Ahmed Al Ka’abi has announced.
His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa will patronise the third edition of the event which was previously organised in 2010 and 2012.
The show reflects Bahrain’s keenness on animal production and fish farming, being a main pillar in boosting food security, the minister revealed.
He detailed steps taken to promote the sector by exchanging experiences, boosting primary and preventive care, supporting farmers and applying best practices and technologies according to the national strategy for sustainable animal growth.
Dr Al Ka’abi lauded the success of the previous editions in promoting know-how skills and attracting a large number of exhibitors.
Shaun the Sheep to fascinate kids at F1 weekend
Popular children’s television show Shaun the Sheep will be coming to life at the 2014 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix.
Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) announced last week that a special Shaun the Sheep tent will be put up in the F1 village vending area as part of a fantastic line-up of children’s entertainment. The F1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix takes place on April 4 to 6 at “The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East” in Sakhir.
A spectacular programme of kids’ shows will be held as part of the off-track celebrations of BIC’s 10th anniversary and the landmark 10th hosting of the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix.
Shaun the Sheep is recognised the world over for its slapstick humour, distinctive look and strong, quirky characters.
