A 40-storey Secretariat complex will be the first structure to come up at Amaravati, the new capital city of Andhra Pradesh. The preparations are in full swing to commence the construction work by June next year and complete the first phase by December 2018, nearly six months before the scheduled Assembly elections.
Spread over 500 acres near Lingayapalem village in the core capital area in Guntur district, the secretariat complex will have world-class facilities, officials of the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) said. A consortium of national level architects and planners are being roped in to design the building.
The first phase of construction would require nearly Rs30 billion, and the state government is expected to seek the entire amount from the Centre as part of the assurances made in the AP Reorganisation Act of 2014 which facilitated bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh to carve out a separate Telangana State.
