DVD Reviews
Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (2015) (PG-13)
Based on the debut novel by Jesse Andrews of the same name, comes a Fault In Our Stars-esque flick that deals with mortality in a humble, touching way. Greg (Mann) is a high-schooler who is in plenty of groups but still lacks close friends, and spends most of his time creating 'bad' parodies of films with his friend Earl (Cyler). However, when his mother forces him to befriend Rachel (Cooke) who has recently been diagnosed with leukaemia, he finds himself going on the ultimate mission - to make a film tribute just for her. Humourous and heart-warming, this is a must-watch for teens and adults.
Duration: 105 minutes
Genre: Comedy/ Drama
What's good: A beautiful blend of humour and drama; the acting
What's bad: Not the most original plot
Cast: Thomas Mann, RJ Cyler, Olivia Cooke
Rating: 4
The Walk (2015) (PG-13)
The ultimate fright fest for anyone scared of heights! The Walk is based on the real life story of French street performer Philippe Petit who walked on a tightrope between the Twin Towers of the World Trace Center in 1974. Played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, follow Philippe's incredible story - how he first got his inspiration, practised tirelessly, 'recruited' a number of accomplices to help him pull off the 'coup' and spied on the construction site to find the best way to sneak onto the roof. Overall, this one's a nail-biter and makes for a satisfying watch.
Duration: 123 minutes
Genre:Adventure/ Biography
What's good: This one really packs in the drama
What's bad: Not a flick that can be watched over and over again
Cast: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Charlotte Le Bon, Guillaume Baillargeon
Rating: 3.5
