DVD Reviews
Pan (2015) (PG)
We've heard the tale of Peter Pan and watched the classic animated 1953 movie. Now get ready for this visually stunning prequel that gives us the back-story to 'the boy who wouldn't grow up'. Peter (Miller) is an orphan who is raised under the care of the cruel Mother Barnabus. When he angers her, she gets the pirate Blackbeard (Jackman) to kidnap him. Peter does get away, but someone has to stop Blackbeard from terrorising Neverland, and according to a prophecy, he may be the best boy for the job. Kids are sure to love this one, but the generic storyline may not be a hit with adults.
Duration: 111 minutes
Genre: Adventure/ Family/ Fantasy
What's good: The incredible special effects
What's bad: The run-of-the-mill plot

The Martian (2015) (TV-MA)
Based on the 2011 novel of the same name by Andy Weir comes the story of astronaut and botanist Mark Watney (Damon) who finds himself stuck on Mars when his team's evacuation goes very wrong. However, it isn't long before he realises that he has his teammates' share of food - allowing him to live for over 300 days on Mars. As he painstakingly makes contact with Earth, and his teammates are informed of his survival, rescue missions are planned. Although most scenes involve only Damon, there's never a dull moment in sight.
