Women's empowerment is almost a cliché, but not quite an overdone one. Everyone's talking about it - and, to be fair, everyone seems to be doing something about it. Something that makes you, as a woman, stand out from the clutter and yet seamlessly segue into a kind of a gender-equality landscape; what's more, women tend to be better at many jobs (that's not me speaking - it's the collation of research and studies conducted over decades). It's a topic that will never run out of speed as the world gets more and more rounded with technology, new (and creative) thinking and tougher challenges being posed. So it's never really an inopportune time to be talking women's roles as they break ceilings and push envelopes. This week, we have a formidable line-up of ladies who have dared to live on their own terms - not just by wearing hipster jackets and sporting tattoos - while making a signi-ficant contribution to society. Take a leaf out of these special women's books the next time you want to turn a corner.
The men, too, shall not be denied credit. We give you Geoffrey Kent's life, in his own words, to mull over. In case you are wondering who he is, he's the gent who founded luxury travel agency Abercrombie & Kent (and do listen to him when he says there's no Abercrombie, only Kent - there's a good reason why he says so), after he spent a life playing by the 'survival of the fittest' credo. It's a jungle out there, you realise when you hear him speak, and you need to be thinking right out of the box if you want to go places. And going places Mr Kent has. Read about his fascinating travels, and travails, as we get up close and personal with him.
The big day - Christmas - is around the corner. Time to get ready with some serious gifting matters; wknd. gives you a choice of the brightest and the best you can go on a shopping spree with. To take the spirit of Christmas a notch higher, When Hungers Strikes comes up with an array of foodie options you can 'present' someone (very special, obviously) with. Pursuits may pose something of a spoiler for those who haven't watched the latest Bond flick Spectre (and plan on watching it in the near future), but read it for an inventory on 007's screen villains. Bollywood goes down the 2015 memory lane and lists cover girl Deepika and recently-acquitted Salman as top of the pops. All this and much more.
Enjoy reading wknd. and have a great weekend!
