This little grain we had barely heard of a couple of years ago has become a highly recommended food. Quinoa, it has been proven, is good for you in case you desire to shed extra pounds. Include this grain into your meals at least thrice a week to feel more energised. Read on to find out why it is a superfood:
Magnesium
This grain is rich in magnesium, so you can include it in your post-workout meals - whether in a shake or simply as a replacement for rice or other dense carbs. Magnesium promotes healthy blood sugar levels. Apart from helping with transmission of nerve impulses, it also helps in the formation and maintenance of healthy bones and teeth.
Riboflavin (B2)
The riboflavin in quinoa helps in creating proper energy production. So, if you are vegetarian or vegan, this little grain will boost your B2 levels significantly. Something to consider seriously, right?
Iron
In addition to the above, quinoa is high in iron, which, in turn, helps our red blood cells stay healthy and happy. Since iron carries oxygen from one cell to another whilst carrying significant amount of oxygen through our entire bodies, it also aids all the functions of the body.
Fiber
Quinoa has nearly twice the amount of fibre as compared to any other grain. In case you didn't know, fibre not only helps in relieving constipation, but is also instrumental in maintaining our cardiovascular health by stabilising blood sugar levels and hence helps in warding off diabetes.
Gluten-Free
With everybody realising the importance of keeping gluten out of their diets - especially with it being such an irritant for those with irritable bowel syndrome and Crohn's Disease - consuming quinoa becomes all the more important. Studies have shown that by using quinoa instead of typical gluten-free ingredient - like refined tapioca, potato, corn and rice flour - can dramatically increase the nutrient and antioxidant value of their daily diets.
Verdict: Whether it is for weightloss or simply to up your health ante, make sure you include healthy amounts of this humble grain in your daily meals and experience the aforementioned health benefits.
