Craving succulent meat and seafood in a laidback ambience? If yes, then West 14th Steakhouse has you sorted with its BBQ Fridays. Set within the premises of Dukes The Palm, the restaurant is a stroll (or a complimentary buggy ride) away from the hotel's entrance and boasts a relaxing vibe, complete with a façade and gorgeous sea views.
Originally an outdoor concept, we were ushered indoors and served grilled goodies cooked in the kitchen as our hosts - Chef De Cuisine Clive Pereira and Dukes' Operations Manager Anil Manhapra - informed us that it would be a better option to sit inside, owing to the afternoon's sweltering heat. Some brave diners, however, could still choose to sit out if they want.
West 14th Steakhouse, a decade-old brand in Dubai, has been operational at Dukes for the last seven years and is well-known for its selection of fresh and juicy grilled items. While not included as part of BBQ Fridays, try their signature Banana Cheesecake for dessert; you can thank us later! In the meantime, read our take on the restaurant's offerings.
Taste: Each dish retained a soft, juicy texture and was very lightly seasoned, perhaps to enhance flavours of the primary ingredient. Memorable items on the menu were the jumbo shrimps, grilled fish, mutton tikka and seasonal veggies. We could hardly taste salt in the preparation.
Ambience: Quiet and relaxed with a heavy dose of '90s tunes. The restaurant can accommodate couples as well as large groups. We were told that its glass walls are tucked away during cooler months to reveal an open space, complemented by live entertainment.
Service: Servers are friendly and attentive. They were able to suggest the best beverages to pair with meals. We were also offered a set of knives to wield at the table in addition to a cart that featured an exotic collection of gourmet mustards (gingerbread flavour, anyone?).
Presentation: The BBQ Fridays course was served in simple ware. Quite straightforward, but not eye-catching. Each plate was designated to seafood, meat and accompaniments, i.e. vegetables, baked potato and corn on the cob, with the grilled items stacked atop each other.
Value for money: West 14th Steakhouse offers a backyard BBQ-style experience in a family-friendly venue. The BBQ Fridays experience is hosted every Friday between 1 and 4pm. The deal is priced at Dh150 per person for adults and Dh75 per child, and valid until the end of August.
