Now that we all have partied hard, we have also exhausted all reasons to indulge. I know, I know, we are all in denial, but let's face it, all the merry-making does add a few pounds to our bodies. But now, we are into the new year, and the weightloss programme must start asap. How does one kickstart the process? Start a detox programme. Did I hear you ask, "How?" Well, read on and find out.
1. Write down a start date and stick to it
As we all know, our detoxes/diets/exercise regimen always tend to start "next week". Make sure you write down a date that is realistic and then commit to it. And share it with friends also. This way, you have no choice but to do it!
2. Write down why
This is one thing that will keep you going through those days and moments when a chocolate muffin is jumping out at you or a packet of crisps is waiting to be eaten. Your WHY will keep you on track and make you realise it is all worth it.
3. Go vegan
Not forever. Only for the detox week. Try it and you will be addicted. The clean, detoxed feeling you get when you let go of processed foods and meats is a game changer.
4. Change your routine
If you always go home and get into your PJs and vegetate in front of the television, then shake it all up. Do something different for a change. Meet a friend for coffee or join a gym or, while the good weather lasts, keep your exercise gear with you and change after work and get out for a jog or a run.
5. Water therapy
Start your day with at least 1 litre of warm water with lemon. Great way to alkalise your system and eliminate those lurking toxins. Also, it helps hugely in kickstarting your metabolism.
6. Pick your parties
Honestly, you do not have to be at every party that ever happens. Let go of FOMO and be picky. Commit to only two to three nights out each week. That way, you have a chance to stick to a routine and also not overindulge every single day!
7. Eat at home
The problem with eating out regularly is that you do not know what is in the food that you are eating. The oil, the ingredients the spices. You are at the mercy of another person and guess what? Whatever they give you is not necessarily good for you. When you cook at home, you know exactly what's in the food and then you are in control of how clean your diet is.
8. Food journal
Last but not least, keep a food journal. Everything that you put in your mouth should ideally be journalled, hence ensuring you are not underestimating the amount of food or drink that you are consuming!
Here's to a 'new you' this year with lots of healthy moments ahead of us!!
