The Ras Al Khaimah police have warned truck drivers here against driving on the roads and highways of the emirate during foggy and unstable weather.
The strict ban has been enforced for road users' safety following a number of gruesome traffic accidents recently blamed on low visibility and dense fog on the most parts of the emirate at different times of the day.
Col Ahmed Saeed Al Sam Al Naqbi, acting director of the traffic and patrols department, RAK Police, said almost all the traffic accidents reported on the roads of the emirate were serious and deadly sometimes.
"The ban enforced on trucks during unstable weather is aimed to protect and ensure road users' safety and curb traffic violations and casualties."
The RAK international airport had, meanwhile, received a number of planes that were transferred from the airports of Dubai and Sharjah owing to foggy and unstable weather.
Sanjay Khanna, Chief Executive Officer, RAK international airport, said most of the flights transferred to the airport of the emirate were of Air Arabia. "Some others were of Space Jet and Air Float."
"The RAK international airport provided all the logistic facilities needed for the shifted carriers' flights, while some passengers were transported by land to the emirates of Sharjah and Dubai to continue their transit flights."
The RAK traffic police have also urged all motorists to exert caution while driving through severe fog by keeping enough distance between vehicles and not using the car's hazard lights except in an emergency.
"Low beam lights should also be switched on and indicators are a must when changing lanes."
Residents of the areas much exposed to strong winds are requested to be careful, and immediately call (999) in case of emergency, informed sources with RAK police underlined.
"All residents are advised to avoid mountainous areas and valleys, while all motorists are requested to reduce speed, be attentive on the road, turn on the light, and observe traffic rules for road users' safety and theirs."
