UAE fighter jets blazoned the skies in the national colours of red, green, white and black as the country displayed its military prowess during a parade in Umm Al Quwain on Friday. Spectators were wowed as the main units of ground and air forces and the elite Presidential Guard showcased various live-action battle scenarios, including airborne hostage rescue.
His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Umm Al Quwain, who attended the parade, said the armed forces have received "special attention" since the country's inception. "Their unification as a single body is a historic event ... Under the leadership of The President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, our armed forces enjoy a special status in terms of state-of-the-art technology, training, quality of armament, and development of their capabilities, with the ultimate goal of protecting our homeland and its gains and ensuring its security and stability."
The seventh edition of the Union Fortress show was biggest-ever public demonstration of the UAE Armed Forces. It highlighted the coordination and collaboration that the armed forces employ while dealing with security threats.
