UAE residents have expressed delight over being able to spend more time with their visiting loved ones. This has been made possible by a visit visa extension announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, late on Monday.

Dubai resident Asif Mehmood said his parents arrived in the UAE on a visit visa in October. They were due to return to Pakistan’s capital Islamabad on January 2.

“I’m very happy with the one-month extension. This is very good news and is very helpful for people. I would like to thank the UAE Government for this. I will avail of this opportunity so that my parents can stay for one more month,” said Mehmood.

Ashley Tariro, a traveller and photographer, said the extension has helped her family. “It has helped my family greatly, I’m really grateful,” said Tariro.

Rahma Ali is happy that she can extend her stay with her family. “I’m a student here visiting family ... It has helped so much,” said Rahma.

Syed Arsh said the decision is a boon for people who have been stranded due to temporary border closures around the world.
