A 10-year-old and three teenage students from Dubai and Abu Dhabi schools have been conferred with prestigious Princess Diana Award for taking up exceptional social leadership roles.
Harshith Putsala, Grade 5 student of Bright Riders School Abu Dhabi, received the prestigious UK award and is the youngest recipient of the award from the UAE. He had made a robot to segregate waste for organic composting and was selected for Dubai Expo's Young Innovators programme.
Amith Mazin (14), Sanvi Rathod (16) and Rania Ali Khan (13) have been recognised with the award for social actions or humanitarian efforts. Established in memory of Diana, Princess of Wales, the award is given out by the charity of the same name.
Amith Mazin and Sanvi Rathod are students of JSS Private School in Dubai, while Rania Ali Khan is a student of Dunes International school in Abu Dhabi. They were recognised for their participation in Tajneed UAE, an initiative to strengthen students' connection with the community and broaden their support network.
As part of the Tajneed initiative, Amith designed, developed and delivered self-development and wellness programmes to bus drivers and nannies in his school with the aim of closely integrating the school community. His work has resulted in an inclusive and happy environment creating a sense of belongingness.
Sanvi Rathod was recognised for volunteering to design and deliver a self-development and wellness programme in her school by training 60 bus drivers and 60 nannies each week. She also continues to help others in her community.
Rania Ali Khan has been recognised for her voluntary involvement in social activities. Rania organised educational and recreational activities among the bus conductors and drivers, who provide vital school transport. She also encouraged the student passengers to have a positive attitude towards them.
