Four students found guilty of bullying a boy inside a bus have been let off with a warning by a court in Sharjah. A disturbing video of the boy being assaulted and insulted had gone viral on social media.
The incident was reported from Kalba.
The four students were found guilty of bullying the boy and then posting a video clip of the same on WhatsApp without his permission. The Kalba Misdemeanours Court cleared three other students who appeared in the video.
As per court records, the case unfolded on July 1 this year. Kalba's public prosecution referred the seven students involved in the incident to court. Two of the defendants were sent to a juvenile centre affiliated to the Ministry of Interior. Five of the students were charged for the school bus attack and two for stepping in to avenge the victim.
Charges included assault, verbal abuse and filming and sharing a video on social media without the victim's consent.
The victim's father said his son did not inform him about the attack. He was "shocked" when he received the video through WhatsApp. He then filed a report about the incident.
The students earlier admitted to their crime and four of them spent 10 days at a juvenile home.
