The Abu Dhabi Police have arrested an inspector with a government department in Al Ain and his brother for receiving bribes to illegally complete government transactions.
Lt. Col. Mattar Mu'ded Al Muhairi, Head of the Anti-Corruption Department of the Abu Dhabi Police, said that the two brothers of Arab nationality were arrested following a tip-off. The investigation revealed that the 38-year old government employee was involved in financial and administrative corruption and his 29-year-old brother who works as a truck driver allegedly served as the middleman. The accused were referred to the public prosecution along with the evidence.
Lt. Col. Al Muhairi said a member of the anti-corruption team went undercover as a client and agreed with the second suspect (the middleman) to illegally complete a transaction in return for money. The investigation led officers to the involvement of the inspector, who was later arrested from his workplace.
The official stressed the Ministry of Interior's keenness to promote positive values of the Emirati society, which include integrity, transparency and occupational honesty. He also called on the public to report any crime or suspicious behaviour through the Aman Service (aman.gov.ae) on hotline number 8002626, SMS to 2828, or e-mail to aman@abpolice.gov.ae.
